That is what I say every time something happens to any of my harder to get parts for, high maintenance, not sure why I bought it, it looks good as a paperweight motorcycles.  This had applied to the Ducati for years but eventually it settled down and doesn’t have as much quirks as it used to.  Well I think I’m missing a bolt or two on the heat shield and there is a weird stutter in 3rd gear at full throttle but I can live with it.

What I can’t live with is this……

Those are the cases on my 2004 Husky TE450.  I JUST got it back from the top end rebuild and two rides later, BOOM.  I was kick starting it and I heard this loud THUNK.  When I looked down I noticed the grand canyon forming on my engine.  Albeit much faster then the natural process that formed the real one.  I must have one heck of a kick…….

So what I am supposed to do in this situation?  I have put a lot of time and money into the bike as is.  And really if I man up and rebuild it the motor will practically be brand new.  I’m pulling the motor this weekend to determine if there is any damage past the cases.  It’s a lot of time and money however I swing it so I am going to start with determining if the cost of a rebuild is worth it.  As long as I don’t need any parts past what I priced out I should be ok.  From my research I also found out that there is an updated kick starter that should alleviate this problem in the future.  But once again I lose a little bit of faith in my bike to even get me from point A to Point B.

Have you ever seen this before?  I sure haven’t……..anyone else have stories of their catastrophic failures?

I haven’t posted in a while but I’m not going to make excuses.  I have a lot of pictures and stories from the past couple of weeks and they will get up!
