I don’t think AAA tows out here….. – 5 of 29

One of my recent rides I managed to poke a neat little hole in the side case of my DRZ400S.  This is a common problem with the soft magnesium cases, I did have case guards but they didn’t save it this time.  Good thing I ride with friends that are more then willing to help out!  Here is my own personal tow service.

Has anyone else had a funny situation occur from a broken down bike?

The Almost Trusty Steed – 4 of 29

My 2008 Ducati 1098 is the most fun and aggravating bike I have ever owned.  It was the one bike to properly introduce me to the world of riding.  This includes the fun times and the I want to kick my broken bike off the cliff times, exotics…………I can’t get away from them!  This thing has taken me from NY to Deal’s gap all by myself , made it through 700 mile sunday rides and my first trackday.  The bike recently hit 19k miles and is still running strong I hope to do a valve check on my own in the next couple of weeks and keep it running just as well as it has been the last 10k miles or so.  Before that 10k it had a couple of issues but that is for another post……….

But it has actually never left me completely stranded so maybe I should stop whining!

This bike brings so much to my life and I have done so much on it.  Do you have a bike that floods you with countless unforgettable memories?

“I Want a Crotch Rocket” – 3 of 29

So where did Crudmop’s 636 go you might ask?

Well I had called my dad the other day to see how his time in Florida had been, he owns a house there and hangs out in it during the off season.  He knows i’m a motorcycle fanatic and he is a bit of a rider himself.  He used to race an old Ducati single on a dirt track during the war in Vietnam.  He continued this passion after the war and now owns a 2001 Honda Valkyrie.  And I have seen him take some old Hondas off dirt jumps, he can ride pretty damn well I say! So while on the phone we have the following conversation.

“You know what I want?”

“What dad?”

” I WANT A CROTCH ROCKET!!”

I had no idea but my dad has never ever owned a sportbike!  Sure he has taken my 1098 for a spin here and there but that was it.  Just so happens our friend Crudmop on here had a 2003 Kawasaki 636 for sale.  A perfect match in my eyes and my dad with all his gusto agreed by saying  ”Screw the hogs lets get it!”

So here he is grinning ear to ear on his new to him 636!

Seeing my dad pick this bike up at his age put a huge grin on my face as well.  Maybe we both will ride our sportbikes to Deals Gap this summer, I can only hope!  The bike is in a good home we promise to put it to good use!

Goodbye, 636

Last night I bid adieu to my trusty 2003 636.  It hadn’t seen all that much use lately, and though I loved it I knew it would be best to give it a home where it would be enjoyed more often.

We saw the gap together; rode all over the east coast; enjoyed track days; and she carried me thru much of the decade.  15 hours of rain and a road full of toads on the way to Maine, breakfast in bed at the Biltmore mansion, knee down at NJMP, she was there through it all.

I will miss her.

An Inconvenient Plate

You ever wonder where to mount your plate on that tiny fender of your street legal dirtbike?  Well I took the cue from a friend and went with the following solution.  I think it’s more visible this way anyways and it won’t take any damage unless I manage to throw myself off the back of the bike.  Which does happen more often then not……….

Plate Mounting 101

Anyone else have some crazy plate mounting locations?  Back of the helmet maybe?
