21 of 29 – Three wheels of utter terror

In this photo we have the seemingly innocuous Scootcar, rented in San Francisco a couple of years ago under the advisement of one FuzzyGalore.  Notice she’s not the sucker tasked with piloting that three-wheeled death trap.

Now, if you are considering driving in one around on relatively horizontal roadways, they are reasonably unsafe.  The vibrating wheel and loose front end make up for the complete lack of brakes and/or acceleration.  Bend or lean the road on any plane and it becomes exponentially more difficult to control.

Clearly unsatisfied with any garden-variety danger level, we decided a good vehicle test would be to take it down Lombard street (the curviest street in the galaxy, I think).

At the top of Lombard there were a good handful of people cheering us on – and let’s be honest, I’m pretty sure they were hoping for a fiery crash.  We navigated the road without incident, but at the bottom is a long decline where at one point I looked over at Fuzzy and remarked that my leg was going to fall off from pressing the drum brakes, the car was not stopping and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to keep us from riding through the intersection out of control.

20 of 29 – rainbows at Skogafoss

While touring the Icelandic countryside, the planets aligned and left me with a perfect photo opportunity – capturing my two favorite girls under a rainbow at the Skogafoss waterfall.

Tight Squeeze – 19 of 29

While travelling in Europe you learn quickly how fortunate we are in the states to have wide roadways – this photo was captured on our way along the eastern coast of Lake Como on our way to the Bellagio/Varenna ferry.  After a few days you get used to it, but you never know which blind corner will present you with an extremely tight fit.

Ice Racing on Lake George – 18 of 29

We found our way up to Lake George a few years back for their Winter Festival – I imagine there’s little “festivaling” going on this year with the mild temps we’ve been having.

It was so great to just hang out on the ice and watch these guys go at it – and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely jealous.

Wyoming memories – 17 of 29

There’s an amazing section on rt 14 crossing the Big Horn mountains where the land shifts from evergreens and woodland to overpowering oranges and reds on the way into Greybull.  It was a pretty amazing experience, one I hope to do again some day.

Here’s a quick pic of my sweet, while we stopped to soak it all in.
